"Creative" Christmas Stockings from Sew Preeti Quilts

The Island Batik Ambassadors challenge for November 2022 is Creative Christmas Stockings.

Me: What is the purpose of Christmas stockings?
Paul: Not to keep your feet warm...
Me: Just a decorative item, then?
Paul: Mostly.
Me: You know how much I hate "decorative stuff". Just another dust collector, in my opinion.

Paul: Well, some people may actually use it for stuffing Christmas presents.
Me: Hmm... I thought about that.
Paul: And?
Me: Only small presents...
Paul (mischievously): Like dollar bills?
Me (realistically): And gift cards.
Paul: Yup, those can be placed inside a stocking.
Me: Small boxes of jewelry too ...

Little something something from Heirloom Quilting Co.

A Little something something to hang from a door knob for Valentine's Dayor perhaps line a little basket,  This measures 6 x 12 approximately but you can make yours any size you want it to be.  I just used 3 inch squares from my scraps and cut in half diagonaly and sewed the triangles together to make hourglass blocks,  I used 1 1/4 inch single binding strip. You can make flying geese or just squares if you want, just have fun.  Quick and easy,

He Leads Me Quilt 1

Quilts using panels are super fast to make and these two designs I created for Blank Quilting‘s He Leads Me fabric collection are no exception. They convey the spirit of the Thanksgiving season with a soothing palette with dusty corals, teals, and soft ivory that will likely not clash with the colors you already have in your home.

Some of us feel intimidated by fabric panels. However, they can add a lot ...

Christmas quilting for decoration or gifts from Pieced Brain

Christmas quilting for decoration or gifts

Do you like Christmas quilting for decoration or gifts? Here is an idea to turn the blocks you have already made into a finished project!

You saw this quilt before it was quilted and bound (click here for the post), where I worked with 12″ blocks I had made to test quilt patterns. It has become part of my work process: test patterns using similar fabrics so that, one day, I can turn those blocks into a quilt.

It reminds me of the “leaders and enders” process, where you begin and end chain-piecing with scraps of fabrics that you then ...

Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks from Pieced Brain

Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks

Make quick Christmas Quilts with 12-inch Quilt Blocks that you forgot you had! Simple layouts translate into fast gifts or holiday decor.

Last Saturday, after writing a pattern I decided I wanted to spend the rest of the day sewing. I actually wanted to see if I could make a quilt with some test blocks I had. You know that when I test blocks I try to use similar fabrics for many of them so, down the line, I can just put them together into a quilt. That was my mood that day.

The quilt above was the first one ...

Christmas Topiary from Quiltwoman Blog

Christmas! It is the happiest time of the year for so many of us. I think that part of the reason we love Christmas so much is because we take the time to add beauty to our surroundings. These acts are built into the very traditions that we cherish.  There is a mystical nature to beauty. First we create it,  then we experience it with our five senses. Beauty in part, is the physiological and emotional response to that which touches the heart. Beauty helps us to hope.  The next time something beautiful puts a smile on your face, pay ...

Quick Tree Skirt Pattern by Julia Deal from Quiltwoman Blog

Despite the initial geometry used in development, the Modern Spiral Tree Skirt (SEW-104) was the most fun of any pattern I’ve written, and it came together in record time thanks to the mathematical assistance of my college age son. We collaborated on the trigonometry via text during his freshman year at RIT.

I was determined to design a wedged tree skirt that tessellated easily into a circle, yet didn’t waste lots of fabric. I also was hoping to utilize fat quarters since I had a stack of Christmas holiday fat quarters on hand.

For about a week my ...
